The homie Mickey Factz took the time out to speak with us about everything from music to video games. For those that don’t know Mickey Factz is a independent rapper from the Bronx, NY with a huge buzz. He’s been featured in many big magazines such as VIBE and did collaborations with some of your favorite rappers. He’s also a gamer. So get to know more about Mickey, you may be surprised!
Do you plan on ever being apart of a video game soundtrack, I can see that happening for you?
I would love to be apart of a Video Game Soundtrack. It’s gonna happen sooner than later. It would only make sense that my music be attached to some of the worlds greatest games.
Growing up, what was your favorite game or games to play?
NBA Live series on Genesis. I was a fanatic when Live 95 came out. I was about 10 years old when that dropped and fiending. I was a big Shawn Kemp fan so anything he was apart of, I was apart of. I also loved Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat.
You see the madden 09 beef going on between Bow Wow and The Game, are you taking any sides? Or do you think you can crush them both?
I was never really into Madden like that. I was into NFL Street more. I’m a weird dude when it comes to sports games. Gotta be some extra incentive to it. But I’ll take Bow Wow’s side.
There are a few new systems out now, the Nintendo Wii is the one selling the most, and the Xbox 360 and PS3 are going head to head. Is there anyone you like the best?
I like the 360. PS3 in my opinion didn’t live up to the hype. I’m sorry but I’ve been an avid Playstation supporter but I truly think Xbox took this Next Gen thing from them. Wii is kicking everybody’s ass though.
What would a Mickey Factz video game look like? Who would be the main enemy?
A Mickey Factz game would be an action/puzzle solving game. I’d be fighting against the system. Which I’m pretty much doing now (Laughing). Main enemy would be the man with all the money. Whoever that is. I just wanna have a talk with that man. In real life and in the Video Game world.
Did a video game ever influence you musically?
I can’t say that a Video Game had a musical influence on me. Nah. None that I can think of. They influenced me to whip peoples ass when its time to play but nothing musical.
So what about music artists? Who had the biggest influence over your music?
I’d have to say Jay-Z. His style is influential. His music does it for me. Point blank.
The Bronx hasn’t been in the spotlight for a while. Do you feel like your bringing it back in front of New York?
I feel I’m bringing the essence of music back in front. The Bronx is apart of that essence as well as New York. I don’t look at what I’m doing as a territorial thing. Its really for the culture that I’m going hard for.
People always criticize newer artist for lacking song making skills. What makes Mickey different from them other guys?
I actually make great songs. That’s what makes me different. I’ve studied artists who’ve changed music as well as have had longevity. Those are the guys I’ve crafted my sound after. Without them I wouldn’t even be where I am.
What do you want people to walk away feeling after hearing your album?
I want them to walk away with an Understanding. That would lead to Inspiration and concluding with them taking those two qualities to obtain there Achievement. Then I’ll see them at the Museum to appreciate the art we’ve all helped to create.
Whats your feelings on the label “hipster”? And labels in general?
Labels are for people who wanna categorize things they either don’t understand or wanna be accepted by. I feel like if you call me a hipster, its cool. I’m not gonna verbally disagree. I’m going to let my music dictate where I should be.
