Sonic CD is arguably the best Sonic game ever made, however the fact that it was released on the Sega CD meant that it failed to reach the commercial heights of its predecessors. Many were able to check out the game for the first time when Sonic Gems Collection made its way to the PS2 and Gamecube in 2005 but the game has been conspicuously absent from the 50,000 other compilations that Sega has released over the years.
Now finally, in a move which is sure to excite fans, Sonic CD is being ported to PS3 and Xbox as a standalone product. The game will be released on XBLA and PSN this holiday season, which in my opinion is a bad time to release any game. I’m not sure how much people will stop playing games such as Modern Warfare 3, Uncharted 3 and Skyrim 3 in order to check out an old Sonic game but hopefully Sega has a trick or two up their sleeves.
