4 Reasons To Buy The Sega Genesis Collection

It has come to my attention that not enough people are aware that Sega are releasing a Sega Genesis/Megadrive collection for the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 in February. Now I understand our priorities are to rush into gamestation (or gamestop for all you US heads), grab Killzone 2 and Street Fighter IV and play for a whole two weeks before getting bored. But Sega’s collection is a gem that I don’t think should be overlooked, especially if you owned a Genesis/Megadrive back in the day. Here are four reasons you should buy this game.

1. The Games Included are Classics

See the full list of games included here

How can you not be excited at seeing all those classic Sega titles in one place, and yes I am aware that there are roms and emulators. But this game is well worth the money with all those classic games, he’ll I didn’t even know there was a Golden Axe 2 and 3 until I saw this. Plus it has all the games i have yet to complete, such as Altered Beast, Shining force and Echo the Dolphin. Also I always wanted to play those Phantasy Star games, anyone old enough to remember the Sega Genesis era is sure to share my excitement on this one.

2. Old School Sega Games on your HDTV? Hot Damn

The games already look as beautiful as it is (for their time of course), but Sega’s collection will output the games at a 720p resoluton with smoothing effects. So unlike the Streets Of Rage that you can download for Xbox Live, the collection upscales the games to look that much more beautiful on your HDTV’s.

3. Earn Trophies and Achievements for Playing your favorite Retro Classics

Yep! Thats right, the collection will include Achievements and trophies for you to earn. Lets face it, we’re never going to be able to go back in time and wait for the Sega Genesis/Megadrive to bring out a firmware update which implements ‘accomplishments’, but now with this collection we can finally earn something tangible for all our hard work on these retro games.

You can see a list of the Achievements here

4. Half Price

The whole collection is half the price of a normal Xbox 360 or Playstation 3 game, which means buying this should be no trouble since you’ll already be spending $60 on Street Fighter IV which drops the same day. Plus buying this collection is enough to reform your guilty conscience for all those roms you downloaded over the years, Sega will no longer have you in their bad books.

So if you love the old school retro games like me, heres another title you should be adding to your February shopping list. Jeez, when did February become the holiday season?
