So now that we have the corporate chatter out the way, let me tell you a story. We started out as 5 members of a gaming forum. Most of us had similar backgrounds, a few didn’t. But the one thing we had in common was our love for playing video games. A love so much that we started our own podcast within the forum. The podcast was so well received, we thought, why don’t we just make our own website? And so we all agreed it was only natural that we take that step.
You ever browse Gamespot, IGN, Kotaku, and all the big game sites and felt like sometimes the writers and the content were not really catering towards you? That’s how most of us felt. We all came from urban backgrounds. New Orleans, Newark NJ, Houston, Boston and parts of the UK. If we were going to start a site we wanted to speak to those gamers who were like us who visited these sites, as well as those people who were like us that had no knowledge of the gaming information portal. Also(yes, another one) gamers like us who were only used to a few sports titles or GTA’s but wanted to get more out of their console.
Another important aspect that couldn’t be ignored when forming the site was how embedded in the hip hop culture we all were. We made, argue, discussed, ate, slept, and shitted hip hop. And we recognized theres a huge market of hip hop game lovers out there that were just like us. When it came to race or hip hop related content you wouldn’t get that cheesy headline or mocking text that you sometimes get from other game sites whose writers do not understand our culture. The idea to combine hip hop content on a gaming site wasn’t revolutionary in theory, but it was in proper execution.
So here we are forming a “Koalition” of video game & hip hop enthusiast. The name was born out of that same thought. To be apart of this “Koalition” you don’t have to be a staff member. You just had to share the same love and passion for video games and hip hop culture. We formed in November 2008 and since then have made waves in the industry and continue to think of new ways to walk untouched paths. Join Us. – AB Frasier
