Ubisoft has done big things with Assassin’s Creed II. It is one of the top three games of the year in my opinion. The ending leaves you pondering and wanting more, but collecting feathers and killing innocent people can only supply so much fun once the game is finished. If this was 5 years ago the game would sit and collect dust, but this is the age of DLC and the desire for extended play can be fulfilled.
Assassin’s Creed II will be getting the DLC treatment in the form of two new packs releasing in January and February. The first pack is called the Battle of Forli and is priced at $3.99 / 320 MS points. This pack consist of 6 new memories in which Ezio is joined by Machiavelli and Caterina Sforza to fight off the Orsi brothers. The second pack is called the Bonfire of the Vanities and is priced at $4.99 / 400 MS points. This content opens up the locked area in Florence where the monk Savonarola resides. A new skill called the spring-jump and 10 new mission will be included in this DLC pack.
Overall, the DLC is reasonable priced, but the fact that there are locked areas built into the game with two missing DNA memory spots reassures me that companies will continue to leave things out of games on purpose for the sake of DLC. As long as the game delivers quality and value, DLC won’t seem so evil. Making it a little less obvious wouldn’t hurt either.
