Summer has come and gone (although its still hot as hell.) Here are the NPD’s for the month of August 2009. Wii slowing down with only 277K sold. And the gap in sales between Xbox 360 and PS3 is getting thinner but Xbox 360 manages to beat out PS3 by on 5K, next month will definitely be a different story with the PS3 slim in stores. On the software side, Madden NFL10 takes the top spot with 928K sold on the 360 version of the game, with the PS3 version in third with 665K. In 4th and 5th place is the long awaited Batman game, Arkham Asylum. Surprisingly, the 360 version of the game outsold the PS3 version by 13K, so I guess they put The Joker on the wrong console. That’s pretty much all I care to say about this month’s NPD, until next time.

They put the Joker DLC on the wrong console just because the game sold 10k more on the 360, a console that has an install base nearly 8 million units more than the PS3, that too based on only sales figures in the US? Way to make a moronic statement! According estimates from VGChartz the game sold more than 80k copies on the PS3 worldwide. Even if the figures are half of that, that is a remarkable achievement, considering the Joker DLC is not even significant like say the GTA IV DLC Micro$oft paid $50million for, or the Fallout 3 DLC that came out first on the 360. The fact that these figures, from the *US* market, where 360 has much greater install base than PS3 and has always sold a significantly great amount of software for nearly every multiplatform game, shows that even a small piece of DLC can help significantly reduce that gap in sales.

It was in fact an incredibly CLEVER decision by Eidos by putting this DLC on the RIGHT PLATFORM. By giving PS3 owners an incentive to buy the game they have ensured a great profit margin in the long run. That DLC probably didn’t even cost that much money to make compared to how much they are gonna make in return. In fact, if Sony paid for it, then it shouldn’t even matter if they put it on the right platform or not. I bet Eidos would rather enjoy greater sales on both platforms.

So try not to jump to conclusions. It makes you look stupid.

Come on now, after all the DARK KNIGHT The Joker became the post popular character ever, even more then Batman himself, so that character has more power then Fallout/GTA DLC which did nothing.

    • Edward V says:

why so serious? Nah but really, yes 360 has a bigger install base than PS3 in America, so fucking what. Your practically saying PS3 had no chance in selling more copies because 360 has a bigger install base but some games have sold better on the ps3(tomb raider). Now heres the thing, this DLC was promoted for a while on the net and on commercials and for the ps3 version to still sell less its sorta a failed decision. Whoever made the deal or decision made the wrong one. Lets be honest the main reason for the joker dlc on ps3 was to beat the 360 version and it didn’t succeed………and for the record we’re talking NPD’s, take that world wide sales talk somewhere else.

And joekilla, did you just say GTAIV DLC did nothing?

      • Joeki11a says:

Like I said, you can’t say “uh it was the wrong decision” when MS didn’t give a fuck about it. So if anything MS lost by not actually trying to get it, the gap of sales would had been bigger.

Stop assuming shit, the DLC wasn’t to beat the 360 version in sales, do you realize how many PS3 sold are in the USA, compared to 360?. It didn’t fail, it actually made things closer so how did it fail?, they wouldn’t be that close with out the DLC and if MS would had got it the
PS3 version wouldn’t be in the top 10.

GTAIV 4 DLC didn’t do shit, the sales gap MS was looking for wasn’t achieved, not to mention mad people hated GTA4 and sold it before GTA DLC even hit lol, JOKER DLC>>>>>anything out there in terms of making an impact, MS LOST by not even trying to get it.

      • Joeki11a says:

Oh and I know you’re talking about NPDs, just like how a Japan PS3 guy would only look at Japan sales as it benefits them in arguments. I know it scares you as 360 loyalist what could happen in terms of worldwide sales.

In the end though MS/SONY are 2nd place fighters, Wii rules the industry and MS/SONY can’t stop them, no Halo…no Uncharted, no price drops, gimmicks, nothing will ever have MS/SONY doing what Wii has done

  2. Joeki11a says:

All signs point towards total domination in September for Trey, it will not be pretty next month

but really at this point who gives a fuck about sales, neither have
touched the Wii style dominance and neither will

So the battle for 2nd place is all they are going for now, MS got the 2nd place in a tight grip and are scared of losing it( scrambling with price drops and shit after Slim came out ), they really don’t want to be heading into the next gen being behind Sony in overall sales, they fear that big time.

  3. Joeki11a says:

MS didn’t pay for the DLC or even try to get it, clearly because Sony wasn’t going to out bid them. But look at that gap, it actually helped
the game sale on PS3 so I guess the bid for DLC payed off in that regard.

Since a new Batman game is pretty much guaranteed, MS will make sure they get some DLC next time.
