Despite it’s relevance to the Hip Hop culture, Dan Rosensweig of Activision has today told Gamesindustry that DJ Hero pre orders are very strong ahead of it’s release at the end of the month.

Dan goes on to say “I think we saw a huge pre-sales spike of DJ Hero last week, and as we build to the launch you’re going to see that rise to a nice high number just like Guitar Hero did. We’re really excited about that.” Dan speaks very confident about the fact that they expect DJ Hero to do Guitar Hero numbers. In my personal opinion however I don’t think the game has been very much marketed to the real hip hop fans.

Although I don’t doubt that the game will sell a decent amount, my gripe is that the people who should be the most excited for the game are more than likely unaware of what the game really offers.

Dan also goes on to say “The following Pre-order sales of Guitar Hero continue to do extraordinarily well – you’re seeing DJ Hero in particular… we were very loud in June when we announced that Jay-Z and Eminem were having a relationship with the game itself – they spiked up very high,”

This tells me that they are focusing their marketing on the strength that Jay-Z and Eminem have both co-signed the game. Now we all know how big Jay-Z and Eminem are as far as star power, but will their names alone be enough to get the right people to buy DJ Hero?

In my opinion I feel like it will be mainly people who are already fans of Guitar Hero who will opt to try out DJ Hero, this is because I think more marketing needs to be done to the real Hip Hop fans out there. DJ Hero will be available at the end of the month for £99.99 (UK price).
