Last Thursday I had the pleasure of attending an exclusive preview of DJ Hero held by Microsoft and Activision. It was a pretty shitty day weather wise, cold & raining but they made the night well worth the commute. I was excited to finally get my hands on the DJ Hero game after months of trailers and press releases the time had come. So what was my first impression?

When I first walked into the OpenHouse Gallery I was escorted to this nice press area where an Activision rep sat playing the game on advanced. He made it look very easy. So I stepped up and gave it a try and was intimidated immediately. I call this the hardest, easiest game for a reason. The game was very easy for me to jump on and start playing, so automatically any casual fan will adapt to the pick up and play nature. But the moment I took the game off easy and hit medium it became very hard. Not hard because of the game play, but hard because of the….controller.

To master this game you will have to become one with this turntable. Which is a good thing. When I took the game home with me I begin to notice how easier the game became, but still challenging. I can only imagine how more challenging it will be when I play the final build. DJ Hero has definitely impressed me, since I didn’t have much of an expectation for it to live up to. To be quite honest, I was sleeping on it. I got quoted by a fellow journalist saying the game wasn’t “mind blowing”, but now it has now become almost therapeutic. If your a music head you will love it.

One thing that’s kind of off to me. The guitar and turntable jam session. There’s a mode where you can hook up your Guitar Hero controller  and jam with your friend on the turn table. It looks weird. Not to say it has not been done, you have Run DMC and Linkin park. But I think there should be a special music playlist that would make the duo fit right. Besides that I like the ability to connect all your controllers up to the game. I wonder if the Tony Hawk peripheral will be compatible? ha, joke.

The event was dope overall. Good food, free drinks, J period providing the good music. And even at one point the legendary DJ Evil Dee of Da Beatminerz hopped on the 1’s and 2’s. Pics below. See if you can spot me in one of he pics chopping it up with N’gai Croal.

I don't think outside of the box. Because if I did then that would presume I was already in one. Co Founder Of The Koalition.

is that you in image 3? lol

i want the game but the songs/artists on it dont really appeal to me and i’m really thrown off by the £100 (which is $166) asking price, especially knowing that if it’ll probably be discounted to around £50 6 months after its release when noone is buying it
