This generation has been the cause of heated fanboy wars, specifically between Sony’s Playstation 3 and Microsoft’s Xbox 360 products. It has come to the point where huge exclusive titles such as Gears of War, or Killzone 2 mean much more than just providing enjoyment for gamers. Now a days you feel like you HAVE to buy a game such Killzone 2, just to ensure your respective consoles bragging rights. So does this fanboy war put too much pressure on gamers to buy games that perhaps we usually wouldn’t have?
Personally I can say that I have never been a huge first person shooter fan, but this generation has me buying ones where as if it was still the last generation I know I wouldn’t even bother. I felt really obligated to buy games like Resistance 2 and Killzone 2 simply to help prove that these are fantastic Playstation 3 exclusives and in effect support my choice of console.
Don’t get me wrong though, both are fantastic games and I enjoy playing them both. It’s just the fact that I have never bought so many first person shooters before as action adventure and rpg’s are more my style.

The point is that the Fanboy wars are making it incredibly easy to jump on the hype trains that surround these exclusive games, and once that happens you begin to feel like you need to buy this game to root for your team.
But is this what gaming should be about? This issue could seriously damage somebodies gaming morale as they are forcing themselves to buy and play games. Clearly some people have begun to take this whole fanboy war a little too far.
In my case, I realize I mostly bought Resistance 2 and Kilzone 2 based on hype, but also I know if I wouldnt enjoy playing the game at all then I wouldn’t have let myself get swooped into the hype. For example, I’m not a huge fan of driving simulation so I wont let myself get rolled up into Gran Turismo’s hype too much to the point I buy the game anyway. I have my boundaries and I realize that you can appreciate certain games without having to actually own them if it is not your cup of tea. But others may get completely sucked up by the hype and find themselves buying games just for the hell of it, and this is defiantly not a good look.
So I urge all gamers, especially in this time of recession not to fall too deep into the hype that it makes you purchase everything. Do your research on these games and figure out if it is actually the right game for you before you decide to hand your cash over the counter. Let the fanboy’s argue amongst themselves and just be happy with what you have.
Happy Gaming!

Great article, I myslef am guilty of this.
ok sorry but if you have a ps3 and a game comes out thats only for ps3 you should buy it why not i like gta style of games but does that mean i cant play other games a ps3 exclusiv hasnt come out for a long time and i think this one desevers to be bought but i undrstand what you mean its just silly to think this way ok? it should be up to those who want to play what ever they want but realy who cares if there is a fanboy war. i have had playsataion since no.1 and im not regretting that and i have a ps2 and ps3 and if i have enough money i will buy a 360 but now its just sad yes to see microsoft bribing everybody to make ps3 editions of miltyplatform games whors such as fallout and you know this is true i mean they only make dlc for xbox and pc why make it for pc when it will just be pireted.for that i hate microsoft and thats why i have a mac. microsoft has a lot of money to throw around they shoud be ashamed they are doing this worse.
and p.s sorry for the long speech i had to get this of my mind but think about it. it may seem as a conspiracy but look at kz2 its 30% of the ps3 and the games are just going to role in and when you see the games that had 360 dlc exclusive and all that crap u can see that the ps3 version is worse.why why why?
I don’t buy games simply because they’re exclusive to a console…..otherwise i would have bought about 10,000 shovelware games for my Wii.
However some fanboys DO feel obligated to buy a game just to try and prove a point (Look at Halo 3) which is not only pointless but it’s also kinda stupid when they could’ve put that money towards a game they actually WANTED to play.
I Think I See Some Indirect Sending In This Article LOOOOOL Swiff You Know You Was Force To Buy Killzone2 & Resistence2 Whereas I LOve Halo And Have Every Single Game
It’s more people getting sucked in by the marketing of the title being everywhere also which makes you buy games you wouldn;t have looked twice at had there not been so much coverage.
just wait for 2010-2012 ps3 will bring some heavy things they are only figuring out the things to do on the ps3 and its crazy this presure they put on us like u have to be 360 or ps3 wich do you chose
You know… Fanboys, the ones that troll the Net, are less than 1% of the gaming population. I seriously doubt they are putting much pressure on the rest of the gamers.
It would never happen, WOW people would need to convert over or give this game attention and
that WILL NEVER HAPPEN
