Gamers: Video Game Reviews Are Not Important To Us

Well, what seems to be a new discovery among analyst has been the bare reality for years now.  A recent survey revealed that game reviews are the ‘least important factor’ when buying a new game. Instead gamers rely strongly on word of mouth about whether a game is worth copping or not. That’s how its always been for me personally, I wouldn’t ignore a review but at the same time I took it with a grain of salt.

Analyst Doug Creutz also spoke on how publishers should stop feigning out over high review scores.

“We note this, in part, because of persistent rumors that some game developers have been jawboning game reviewers into giving their games higher critical review scores. We believe the publishers are better served by spending their time on the development process than by grade-grubbing after the fact.”

Besides if a game gets a high review score and turns out shitty, ultimately that publisher may lose some credibility with the community. So the next time a game like ODST gets a 9 I say (shots fired at Edward V):

I never read reviews. I just read what people in the forums are saying about the game and watch some gameplay videos.

I always read or watch video reviews unless it’s a game I know I’m copping anyway (ie. Mario Galaxy 2)

I have a few editors from different publications who i trust and I tend to go with what they say rather than Metacritic

  3. i personally have been running off of word of mouth for a whlie. And sometimes when i read or watched a game review the reviewer would give a game like a 6 or some shit. but when i play it myself i be like “this really aint so bad”

I was enjoying Blood on the Sand but i didn’t enjoy turning on my 360 so i have yet to complete it…

I need to trade it in and buy the PS3 version
