…and that could be a good thing. On Friday EA released the first wave of its downloadable boxer packs. The content features Oscar De La Hoya, Vitali Klitschko, Wladimir Klitschko, George Foreman and James Toney. It will only be 400 MS Points or $4.99 if you own PS3. I often preach how this DLC epidemic has made game developers lazy, but in the case of Fight Night it comes in handy. In June while speaking with a Producer of Fight Night, he revealed certain boxers are financially out of reach for the game. To put it simple, if you wanted to have fighter A, you had to sacrifice having fighters B & C.
With DLC the playing field has changed. If we were still in the last generation, we would just be assed out and stuck with the fighters released in the “final” build. Now EA has more time to negotiate and maybe even give the boxers commission on each download they get. Now, I have no inside information on this topic, but I’m taking a wild guess that if you cannot get fighter A in the game from start, you were able to find a way for him to get more money by negotiating DLC commission or using some of the retail game sales received to re invest in the new fighters. Either way, gamers win. View the full press release below.

In addition to the boxer pack, EA SPORTS™ announced that a free downloadable game update that enables players to use the face buttons on the Xbox 360 and PLAYSTATION 3 controllers to throw punches is also available now. Witness gloves grazing off an opponent as he dodges at the last second, or watch as a vicious uppercut rips through the block of a boxer who turtles for too long. With realistic physics, no fight is ever the same in Fight Night Round 4
Fight Night Round 4 is currently available for the PLAYSTATION®3 computer entertainment system and Xbox 360® video game system from Microsoft.
