It’s no secret that game developers borrow and steal each others swag all the time. But is it ok to brag about it? Just recently Disney Interactive admitted a swag jack from Nintendo. And now today, Ubisoft are saying they were inspired by Valve. Speaking with CVG, Patrick Redding let be known:
“But I mean, a lot of my own personal feelings about co-operative play in Conviction were strongly influenced by the campaigns in Ghost Recon, Gears Of War 2 and Left 4 Dead – it’s just trying to find ways to encourage players to work together without necessarily forcing them to by making them jump through the bottle neck.”
So to answer my own question “is it ok to brag about it?” Yes. Games like Splinter Cell are not mutiplayer havens. So if they come along and mention games such as Left 4 Dead and others as inspiration I can’t be mad at them. I’m actually waiting for the end result now, which I didn’t care much for prior to this quote.
