There will always be video games. Some will suck others will be defined classics. There are many games that were as successful as they should have been. While it can be blamed on poor marketing it can also be blamed on gamer ignorance. Sitting back last week and playing Freedom Fighters inspired me to write this article. I’ll run through a short list of games I feel deserve a true sequel and/or remake.  Whether its The Chronicles Of Riddick Dark Athena remake or just a simple start over from the beginning with the same old mechanics just a fresh perspective.

Freedom Fighters

It’s the reason behind me writing this article and maybe one of the most underrated games to come out last gen. Freedom Fighters pits you in an alternate history where Soviet Russia invades the US. Freedom Fighters takes place in New York City and puts you in the shoes of a 32 year old blue collar New Yorker named Christopher Stone. Throughout the game you take over Russian captured points,increase the size of your resistance and even grow a beard. The game was praised by critics but never got the following it deserved for being one of the best third person shooters ever. While the end of the game was just screaming for a sequel it never happened. The game deserves a remake + sequel. Something along the lines of Chronicles Of Riddick Assault On Dark Athena.

MechAssault

Everyone enjoyed flying around in giant Mechs destroying small cities and each other. Being able to customize your doomsday machine and unleash even bigger hell upon your opponents and the landscape. The Original MechAssault for the Xbox was a cult classic in many gamers eyes. Something fresh to what was a pretty crappy year in games in my opinion . The second one (Lone Wolf) wasn’t held at such high praise as the original and it left fans empty. Day 1 still has the ability to make a new one and it would definitely look amazing on next gen consoles and would probably do well in sales.

Goldeneye 007

Known for having the best multi-player (nothing since than can hold a candle to it) and also a pretty single player. Goldeneye 007 was an unexpected gem for first person shooters. It is revered as a classic in any true gamers eyes. Its time for a remake. The reason it really isn’t happening is because Nintendo still owns the rights to it. Their was rumors that it was going to show up on XBLA with updated graphics but it turned out to be nothing more than a Source Mod that has been out for a year or so. I as a real gamer demand a remake. The game to end all games if you will.

Road Rash

Road Rash has had many releases. The earlier ones being the better and like most other things that try and have more longevity than what is reasonable the latest ones being pretty lackluster. I feel it’s really a time for a fresh re up and re-release. Next gen racing with all the baseball bat swinging at other racers to get to the top. Its the kind of violence in racing that hasn’t been seen since the road rash series ceased to exist. I say bring it back with at least 16 player online with full bike customization and “clans”. If done right it could breathe new life into the genre and breathe a much needed life into an extremely tired genre.

   THANK GOD there is someone else out there who wants a Freedom Fighters remake! That game was simply amazing, but a true shame that almost no one played it. Road Rash also deserves another game.

   Just so you know, your wrong about Goldeneye XBLA being nothing more than a source mod. It was being remade by Rare and it was almost done until Nintendo came in and said it only belongs on their system. I have the scans of Xbox World 360 magazine that did the cover story on it saved to my computer. The game was going to be great. Too bad Nintendo couldn’t swallow their ego and give us what we wanted.

   Lol Mike. Funny thing is I had Dino Crisis on the list and for some reason I just took it off. I may extend this list or even to another sometime in the near future and I’ll definitely add DC.

   @ Dave and Jake. I was young when I played Red,Blue And Yellow and those were happy times in my life. If they remade them I think it’d ruin a lot of the nostalgia. As for Gold/Silver…That is also a good addition.

   Excellent list, may as well remake games that were actually good. Freedom Fighters is the only game I owned on every system and still play.
