Microsoft To Spend $500 Million Marketing Kinect

Microsoft Today announced their £1 billion budget to market both the Kinect and Windows Mobile 7. Half of that budget will go towards the Kinect, which launches next month. I had a feeling that Kinect would go all out with the marketing of Kinect, as this is definitely going to be a huge money maker for them. On the latest edition of The Co-op podcast we discussed the fact that Kinect would be featured on an upcoming episode of Oprah.

“Kinect is the largest, most integrated marketing initiative in Xbox history, bigger than its launch,” said Robert Matthews, general manager of global marketing communications for Xbox. “We are going to be spending millions to launch this globally.”

Amongst other endorsements are TV spots and features on Nickelodeon and Disney. There is also a Youtube front page take over planned some point in the future. Only god knows what else they have in store, Burger King cups perhaps? If you thought the marketing for Halo 3 was insane, then clearly you have not seen anything yet. Microsoft are a money machine and will not stop until they are sure that Kinect will be the top selling peripheral this generation.
