If analyst Benjamin Schachter’s estimates are even close to being accurate the folks over at Infinity Ward and Activision must be smoking $100 bills and pissing out champagne right now. According to Mr. Schachter Modern Warfare 2 has managed to sell an estimated 7 million copies worldwide in its first day on sale, which if true puts it on path to becoming the best selling video-game in history. Just to put this into perspective it took GTA IV one month to reach an install base of 8.5 million and Halo 3 achieved a similar figure in over 4 months.

UK based sales monitor Chart-Track has also revealed record breaking sales for Modern Warfare 2. They estimate that MW2 has already sold 1.23 million copies in the UK alone, almost doubling GTA IV’s previous record of 631,000 units. With huge figures like these floating around you can expect Activision to release an official statement soon but until then a huge congratulations is in order, it’s nice to see great games resulting in great sales for once.

   times either 59.99/89.99/149.99, Activision got more money to make Violin Hero now!

   Plus it costs more in places by Europe and austrailia… They can greenlight Salsa Hero for H-Town too
