April 2009 brought us The Godfather 2, a $99 PS2, and the new Nintendo DSi. So how did consumers react? Let’s look at the NPD and find out who ruled the gaming industry in April 2009. The DSi really help boost DS sales to one million units sold. The Playstation 2 price cut was also a huge success as it outsold the Playstation 3 by about forty thousand units. Xbox 360 managed to barely beat the Playstation 2 by two thousand units. Something that took me by surprise was the Wii only selling 340K, that’s really good but from the Wii I expected more, then again a million DS’s were sold. On the software side, Wii Fit tops the chart with 471K sold. Looks like Pokemon Platinum is still selling since last month, while Resident Evil 5 dropped significantly to only selling 122K units. The Godfather 2 shows up on the charts for both consoles which I’m sure EA counts as a win.
