With all the recent talk of Modern Warfare 2 smashing every sales record known to man, its refreshing to hear that some other titles may still have a chance of success this holiday season. VGChartz estimates that New Super Mario Bros Wii has sold an impressive 550,000 units in the US within its first 24 hours on sale and is on track to reach the 800k mark in week one. Assassins Creed II is also trending high with a combined total of almost 530,000 pre-orders and Left 4 Dead 2 isn’t too far behind with over 275,000 pre-orders on the Xbox 360 alone.

Remember, these numbers are based solely on pre-orders so take them with a grain of salt until the NPD Group releases ACTUAL figures in just over 3 weeks. I’ll be very interested to see just how many people actually pick up Tony Hawk: Ride for $120.
