A study by Neilson has revealed that although the Nintendo Wii is the most sold console, it has the lowest usage patterns.

The research revealed that in North America the Wii had an average usage of 5 days in the month of December (2008), compared the Playstation 3 which had an average usage of 6.8 days and the Xbox 360 7.1 days.

The average session time on the Wii clocked in at 58 minutes, while the Playstation 3 clocked in at 64 minutes and the Xbox 360 78 minutes.

The research also revealed that female gamers are the largest demographic for PC gaming weirdly enough, I guess they love having control over domestic issues in games such as The Sims. Although the study revealed that built in Windows game Solitaire was the most popular PC game, with over 17 million players in December.

So, do these stats proove that the Nintendo Wii is just a fad? I do believe that there are genuine hardcore gamers that buy the Wii to play games, but I think the majority of people that buy the Wii only buy it for a select few amount of games such as Wii Fit.

One Response to “Nintendo Wii is the most sold, but least used console. Is the Wii just a fad?”

  1. No shit the wii is used last. Dude the xbox 360 and ps3 are for hardcore gamer obviously they would spent hours and hours beating the game. While wii its most for casual gamers in which the intensity drops. Although the xbox 360 and ps3 are more for older users meaning they have more time to play this thing. Wii on the other hand, it targets kid. Which parents would want to let there kid play more than 3 or 4 hours games a day.
