NPD – June 2009 And the winners is…..
June was a great month to be a gamer; Prototype, Infamous, Fight Night Round 4 and of course E3. But just like any other month Nintendo wins the hardware side so hit the snooze button on that one. On the software side, we see the Xbox 360 version of Prototype leading the top 10 with no PS3 version of Prototype in sight. UFC Undisputed still doing solid numbers in the #2 spot. Fight Night Round 4 on the 360 takes the 6th spot with the PS3 version just right behind it, selling 50K less than. The surprise of the month, in my opinion, is Red Faction: Guerilla actually charting with 199K sold. In 10th place is the PS3 exclusive Infamous selling 190K in its first full month, having already sold 175K in the last week of May. So in terms of sales who wins, Prototype or Infamous? ….you can answer that question.
For the record: “I own both.”

PS3 gamers know whats up
360 fans didn’t have Infamous, so they had no choice LOL
btw the big story here is actually FNR4, damn that shit flopped badly
btw who ever made that banner, the dude from Infamous is called
“Cole MacGrath”
lol @ “Colin McGrath”
I just realized that Infamous actually outsold its debut back in May, so it actually gained momentum after it came out, I think is the first ever new PS3 IP to do that.
Prototype did manage to sell about 420,000 units on the 360 but Prototype PS3 failed to even make the cut.
Proving again that PS3 gamers knew whats up, being the only console with both of these games, they picked Infamous even more after it had launched.
@Joekilla
How can you say FN4 flopped. Almost 500k in sales already.
@Joekilla
Fight Night Round 4 was only out for 6 days in June although i do agree it should of sold more but still, you can’t call it a flop. At least give it a full month. Infamous only sold 175k in a week and that’s not a flop, in your eyes.
I consider the sales a flop, it wasn’t even number 1 and UFC that came out in May still beat it in sales. It had Mike Tyson and nobody gave a fuck about it, the reaction should had been bigger.
UFC numbers in May and now in June proved how these type games should sale, Boxing ain’t whats up in reality and in now proven int he virtual reality.
FNR4 doing 200k on both consoles is wack as fuck, UFC did better then that on PS3 and 360 when it came out in May and look at it in June on 360, its a wrap EA.
It isn’t a flop, that was great for a new IP, it actually became the best debut in sales for a NEW PS3 IP, if you didn’t know…….
Now add that in June IT ACTUALLY BETTER then a month before?, son you can’t call that a flop, I hope you’re not that stupid.
The case between FNR4 is that series GOES WAY BACK, it had major hype, it had MIKE TYSON but as you seen people were not feeling it, they had already got a taste of UFC and their was no looking back.
FNR4 flopped, it got Chocked out by UFC before it even came out, EA should had stopped at FNR3 back in 2006.
Infamous ain’t a flop, I never labeled it a flop. *double checks just in case*…..nope never did. I’m just saying:
FNR4 in a week = 200k
Infamous in a week – 175k
Of course, Infamous did better in June it was out for a full month so isn’t it safe to say FNR4 will perform the same or better in its first full month (July) I do understand their not on the same caliber as far as popularity but to label FNR4 a flop with first week sales, c’mon now. It ain’t suppose to do Halo numbers.
I got both prototype and infamous at their launch… I’m still playing infamous, and I’m only on the second mission of prototype
so FUCK which one sold more, infamous won!
Clearly that winner was decided the minute the Infamous demo came out and Activision got shook, to the point they didn’t put out a demo LOL.
btw the Infamous vs Prototype battle could only be done on PS3
which had the choice and the gamers decided who won,
175k-Infamous before Prototype came out….
192k-Infamous after Prototype came out, Prototype didn’t even chart lol
If Infamous was multiplatform it would be the same situation but to a greater level of sales and Prototype wouldn’t even chart on neither of the consoles lol.
Damn that xbox attach rate is killing it.
As for infamous and prototype….Infamous is the true winner regardless of numbers. Even though Infamous actually has good momentum sales wise, no matter what anyone says.
People are quick to call something a flop just cos its at the bott0m of a list.
Do you what’s a flop…,
CONDUIT!
goodbye
^LOL true but what do you expect, it is a game that would do numbers on the big boy consoles, but it is Dead on Arrival for the Wii.
no… it wouldnt even sell on a 360, its so generic and boring, nobody would buy that shit
