I wish I could get Koalition editor Richard Bailey to insert an “Uh Oh” right here. In a recent presentation it was revealed that Sony plan to implement some kind of subscription service for PSN to generate revenue. However do not worry as Kaz Hirai was quick to come out and let us know that playing online will remain completely free.

Below is a direct quote of the plans they may have from this subscription service.

“SCE will further increase sales by offering users new entertainment through the combination of hardware, software, peripheral and PlayStation Network,” said the SCE boss.

“Especially in the online area, we are studying the possibility of introducing a subscription model, offering premium content and services, in addition to the current free services.”

Take it how you will; but all I have to say is, I don’t see many people buying a subscription if they can still play games online free of charge.

    subscribe to the 19.99 year PSN model,

    You want movie watching with friends feature, get the into the 29.99 a
    year PSN Model(has x game chat ),
    You want your Avatar standing like Queer in the XMB?, ect


    Sony is cashing in but keeping their PS gamers settled, they do not
    have to pay in order to play online, that's all they care about.

    Again it isn't, the PSN is free for online gaming, they are just adding premium stuff to it, you ain't forced to buy any of that,

    I told you so would be making you pay to play, this isn't that at all.

    Why is this a oh oh?, this isn't going to stop the FREE ONLINE GAMING
    which is the only important part to a gamer, just add features for those that pay, see it as HOME where you pay for being able to put Pinky
    ass screens in your Home space by buying the Picture Frame.

    Also realize Sony know they got a bunch of xbox gamers with PS3s now, they will focus on them to pay for premium things and what not.

    Here is how I see it happening, X-GAME CHAT= PREMIUM FEATURE, who will jump on that first? XBOX GAMERs, they need that in their online experience.

    They are used to that, which is why they are screaming for it for the longest time, so do not be surprised if sony makes it Premium to get that Xbox gamer money, some PS gamers will get it but not as much as 360 gamers who really really want that.
