Sega has chosen to avoid the Holiday rush completely by pushing back the western release of Bayonetta until January 2010. The game will still be released in October in Japan, but due to all the Western huge hits such as Modern Warfare 2, Sega has decided to think strategically.

“Bayonetta is an extremely important new IP for SEGA and adds a new level of depth to our growing portfolio,” said SEGA West president Mike Hayes.

“As a result of market analysis, we have taken a publishing decision that January 2010 is the optimum release time in the Western markets to maximize this exciting new title’s potential.”

However Sega are not the only ones pushing back releases to avoid the Holiday season, and as more and more companies follow suit we may see a “New Year Rush” which will be just as heavy as the Christmas Rush.
