There were several key games absent from last months NPD’s, most noticeably the likes of Need For Speed: Shift, WET, Professor Layton & of course Scribblenauts. However since the #10 game on the Top 10 Software Charts sold an impressive 208,600 copies it’s entirely possible for a game to be a sales-success even without making it on to the Top 10. Case in point; Scribblenauts. According to the NPD Group Scribblenauts was the 13th best selling game of the month selling almost 194,000 copies, which is remarkable for a third-party DS title. Just one place above Scribblenauts at #12 was Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days another third-party DS offering, while poor old Professor Layton only clocked in at #19. The cut-off point for the top 20 was 132,400 which was obtained by the PS3 version of The Beatles: Rockband so its safe to say that missing titles like Dirt 2, Muramasa: The Demon Blade and WET all failed to meet up with expectations and unfortunetly we may not see follow up to any of them.

Next months NPD’s should be real interesting with the arrival of Forza 3, Uncharted 2 and the PSP Go but until then here is the September Top 20 Software Charts courtesy of Gamasutra.
