Fancy playing some old Sonic games on the go? Sega is continuing to milk their mascot for everything he’s worth with the announcement of Sonic Classic Collection for the Nintendo DS. Set for a Spring 2010 release Sonic Classic Collection will feature genesis ports of the original Sonic The Hedgehog, Sonic The Hedgehog 2, Sonic 3 and Sonic & Knuckles. If (like me) you’ve yet to complete any of the 2D Sonic games due to their trail and error nature you’ll be happy to hear that each of these games will feature Save States which will allow you to save your progress any time you please. Sega hasĀ also promised that Sonic Classic Collection will feature “a wealth of extras including video and collectable pictures” but the prospect of watching videos or viewing photos on my DS just doesn’t excite me.
Maybe I’m just jaded but in this era of 16GB micro-SD card I find it incredibly hard to believe that Sega couldn’t have included more games on this compilation if they really wanted to, so the absence of titles such as Sonic Spinball and Dr. Robotniks Mean Bean Machine is disheartening. With that said though, If Nintendo released a compilation containing the first four Mario games I’d be all over it, so I guess if you’re a die-hard Sega fan Sonic Classic Collection will be right up your alley.
