There was this rumor floating around for a while now, that there would be some form of emulation in a update that would enable the PS3′s without backwards compatibility to play PS2 games. I’m not even sure where the rumor started, but we brought it up back up on the recent Co Op Podcast and decided to hit Sony up for some answers. So rather than chop up his words here is a direct quote from the email:

When we removed backwards compatibility from PS3, we said that it would not be coming back as our priority was to make great next generation games. I am not sure where you are getting your information from, but at no point did we say that there would be some sort of emulation being brought to PS3. At no point has this strategy changed and therefore I can tell you that there are no plans to bring back backwards compatibility to PS3. I think you will agree that the list of 1st party exclusive games for PS3 is growing quickly and the quality of them is great. Games such as LittleBigPlanet, Motorstorm Pacific Rift, Resistance 2, GT5: Prologue and the up-coming Killzone 2 show that we are very serious about bringing exciting, innovative and fun games to PS3.

The only reason why I continued to by the Sony gaming systems was because of its backwards compatibility. There have been so many other new systems available in the last few years, and I have chosen Sony over them all. But now I see no reason to stay loyal to a company that changes one of its product’s best redeeming features. Screw Sony, I’m switching to Xbox.

“It does everything” yeah, except play Sony made PS2 games!
The advert slogan should read: ” Sony PS3 Doesn’t play PS2 games that you already bought from us, so buy, buy, buy Uncharted 2 … Surprised.
And another thing: “early odopters” with BC can go suck it, you upperclass bastards. Why does Sony Entertainment Still REFUSE to put back in BC for the common people! FUCK Sony and their PR department
