    I think people overestimate the PC upgrade cycle. PS3 only renders most games at 540P, and I think it is the same on 360. Some games are 720P on 360.

    So, if you build a decent gaming PC now (with a quad core), you will be good to go for years to come. You could play most current or older games at 1080P, then slowly lower your resolution through the years as games become more demanding.

    When you can’t run games playably at at least 720P (console levels), time to upgrade.
