Calling all hip hop practitioners it’s that time again. Is this why people say the music business is so cut throat? When addressing such trickery within the genre of hip hop there is only one mogul that can be described as slicker than a can of oil, Mr. Sean “Diddy” Combs. This is the tycoon we love to hate, not simply because we’re true blue haters but rather because after so many tiresome years we all have faced the facts that Puff is the devil.
Bad Boy Records once shined so bright under the victorious shield of rapping sensations like Biggie and Mase, but as fate would have it the empire faded when the emperor got his new robe rather his yacht. If you’ve learned nothing from this modern marvel of a business model then you should remember that “there is no escape” NEVER!
As I browsed the media mania yesterday, it was all a ranting rage towards Mase upping the anti and seemingly gaining a step on his musical slave master Diddy. Former Guest Blogger K.I.M. has launched her own blog site called Shuddup.com, and was in the building when Mase pulled a “swoop down” on the music industries most terrorizing artist/music mogul. This was very gangsta for a minister, but we all are familiar with the concept of how pimpish the pulpit can get.
While Diddy commenced to do his interview live with V103, Money Mase burst in on some “kick in the door waving the 44” type of aggressive ploy into the popular radio station. What was his mission, to try and speak with Interscope’s newly signed artist Puffy. It was being cheerfully reported that the rapper was attempting to sever all ties with the Dirty Money star, and came through with legal paperwork to get released from his contract. Puff’s agitated body language captured the moment perfectly.
So being placed on the spot put “Mr. Shoot up the Club and let an Artist take the rap Alone Combs” in a predicament which forced him to comply with Mase’s request or be hit with a fistful of embarrassment. First off who’s the real idiot here? THERE IS NO ESCAPE from this man’s clutches. It is now being stated that the signature that Mase gleefully gloated about receiving did not grant him his freedom after all.
That’s right ha-ha it wasn’t a release form. It was a form that allowed Mase to be able to legally participate in other musical collaborations and appearance so that he can earn extra bread when the communion crumbs have gone all but stale. Let’s be clear once more, Diddy is allowing Mase to appear on songs with other artists. He is not freeing Mase from his contractual obligations to Bad Boy. So the moral of the story is if you sign to Bad Boy you may end up dead, in jail, broke, preaching, or any number of catastrophes but one thing is certain you will never know freedom again! So in the immortal words of the evil winner, “take that- take that!”
