The first Slim bundle and a new standard?

Earlier this week at the gamescom 2009 in Cologne, Germany, which Sony Corporation’s Executive Vice President of the Network and Product Services Group and Sony Computer Entertainment CEO and Chairman Kazuo “Kaz” Hirai dubbed “the third major day on our gaming calendar”, the worst kept secret in the gaming industry in quite some time was finally unveiled. The Sony PlayStation 3 Slim. With that, Japan already is getting it in with a bundle. The Gundam 30th Anniversary Box will include, of course the PS3 Slim, the DualShock 3 controller and Namco Bandai’s Mobile Suit Gundam Battlefield Record U.C. 0081.
Mobile Suit Gundam Battlefield Record U.C. 0081 is the newest game installment that celebrates the 30th Anniversary of the Mobile Suit Gundam Japanese animation (anime) staple. The game will feature over 70 Gundam and Zaku mechs, online 4 player co op play, and a bonus downloadable content (DLC) card. The bundle will be available in Japan on Thursday, September 3 for 38,358 Yen. Thursday is the standard day of the week for new releases in Japan and Asia.
The screenshot though tells a different story in it”s own. If you look at the actual Mobile Suit Gundam Battlefield Record U.C. 0081 game case on the left in the above screenshot, you’ll notice that PS3 Slim logo is on the game case as well. It’s not a mistake. This is the new standard design for PS3 game cases. Sony has confirmed earlier this week what skeptics are stating and is that they are indeed phasing out the Sony Pictures’ Spiderman font. Also the way to state the PS3 is no longer in all caps, it’s just now simply PlayStation 3. In other words, this is a complete re branding of the platform. This isn’t the first time that this has happened. Those who remember the 4th generation days of Nintendo vs Sega would recall that Sega re branded the platform when they introduced the smaller Model 2 version of the Genesis/Mega Drive. The Genesis logo was vertical to the side of the game case just like the current PS3 cases on store shelves. What do you think about it? Leave a comment and tell us how you feel.

i dont really want 2 different looking game cases in my collection…
