This generation has brought us many wonderful things, such as the opportunity for developers to get their shine by making games to sell over the various gaming networks. Psn, Xbox Live and even Nintendo’s market place have given us all kinds of amazing Inide games that we can enjoy when we are not trying to get a kill streak in Call Of Duty. However there can only be one top 5 list, with that being said here is the top five list for what we feel are the best indie games thus far. Feel free to produce your own list in the comments.
5. Splosion man
With four player Co-Op and fun frantic gameplay, Splosion man definitely had to make this list.
‘Splosion Man is a sidescrolling action platform video game developed by Twisted Pixel Games for the Xbox 360’s Xbox Live Arcade digital download service. It was released on July 22, 2009 as part of XBLA’s Summer of Arcade 2009. It costs 800 MSP.
4. Fat Princess
This was a very unique experience, something totally different to what we’re used to. If you’re open minded enough to play this game then your in for a treat.
Fat Princess is a downloadable game for the PlayStation Network developed by Titan Studios and published by Sony Computer Entertainment. It was released in North America, Europe, and Australia on July 30, 2009.
3. Castle Crashers
2D side strollers will never die old, ever. The Behemoth brought us a very unique and fun to play side scrolling master peace with Castle crashers, and I recommend everybody own it.
Castle Crashers is a console video game independently developed by The Behemoth, featuring music created by members of Newgrounds. In 2006, Behemoth announced the game as available for download via the Xbox Live Arcade service. It was released as part of Microsoft’s Summer of Arcade campaign, and became Arcade’s best-selling title of 2008. It was voted 2008 Best Game of the Year at the XBLA Awards. A PlayStation 3 version of Castle Crashers was revealed at San Diego Comic-Con in July 2009.
2. Dishwasher Dead Samurai
No indie game has been as hardcore as Dishwasher Dead Samurai. Its art style is so stylish, and the game just kicks ass. This is an inide game you shouldn’t be without. The Dishwasher: Dead Samurai is a beat ‘em up game developed by independent software developer James Silva for the Xbox 360’s Xbox Live Arcade service.
1. Braid
Very fun, but very challenging. The great thing about this indie game is that it presents great challenges, unlike all these soft retail games now a days that you can complete in a few days. Therefore Braid was a no brainier for our number 1 indie game.
Braid is a platform/puzzle video game developed by independent software developer Jonathan Blow. The game was released on August 6, 2008 for the Xbox 360’s Xbox Live Arcade service. A Microsoft Windows version was released on April 10, 2009. Hothead Games ported the game to Mac OS X, releasing it on May 20, 2009, and soon to the PlayStation Network.
Honorable Mentions
- Shadow Complex (Xbox live)(It had huge developer support therefore it didn’t have a place on the list)
- Flower (Psn)
- Pixle Junk: Eden(Psn)
