The Xbox 360 Will Dominate In 2009

My partner Gary Swaby has also posted an article explaining the reasons he feels that Sony’s PS3 will dominate in 2009 (see it here)
Now while we can all see that everyone, everyone’s grandma and everyone’s grandmas dog owns a Nintendo Wii and that the Wii has and will continue to dominate in sales I’m talking about real gaming here. Which would be the PS3 and the 360 (sorry PC Gamers).
Anything Halo: Like it or not The Halo trilogy and pretty much anything Halo is a powerhouse seller for the 360 and with two big Halo related games coming out in 2009 it doesn’t look like Microsoft has any plans on stopping the hype train powered buy record shattering sales numbers and insane amounts of Halo devotees. Gamers nag and complain that they hate Halo 3 but they’ll be the first in line for Halo Wars and Halo: ODST.
Acquiring Exclusives: Microsoft has being taking exclusives like Brain Urlacher picking off QBs foolish enough to throw in his direction.Whether its buying them up or devs are realizing that its smarter to go multiplatform in these days and times. Microsoft has been putting work in to get plenty of other exclusives also on the 360. From Tekken to Final Fantasy to Downloadable Content for two of 2008s Biggest games.
Xbox Live: Xbox Live has grown alot since its debut on November 2002. It will continue to grow and stay as the one true online multiplayer gaming and digital media service. I have a very distinct feeling that Microsoft will make several very big moves for live as a whole sometime in 09.
Achievements: Gamers crave for having a sense of accomplishment besides knowing they did the damn near impossible. They like showing it. It’s what being a gamer is about, having fun and gloating. I look for Microsoft to take achievements to the next level in 09 and to shock everyone.
Price Tag: I’m not sure if you’re aware but we are in a recession at the moment. The $200 price tag will help SEVERELY and unless Sony follows up with on soon and doesn’t stop trying to rehash the same system with a new game thing then 360 will outsell PS3 by a landslide.
Japan: The 360 has been showing promise in the land of the rising sun. Releasing several highly acclaimed JRPGs to help raise pretty lack luster sales in Japan. With the recent acquisition of the next Final Fantasy and Star Ocean: The Last Hope hitting shelves in the next few months I expect 360 sales to soar once again in Japan. We still don’t know if Microsoft has any other JRPGs under wraps.
In Reality, We all expect some surprises from all three Console creators (Sony,Nintendo,Microsoft). I see Microsoft pulling out the big guns and making some major moves in 09 to help put them on top. The year has just begun and we already have several AAA titles coming out so I believe anything can happen. I guess we’ll just have to wait and see.

Yeah as far as consoles that matter (PS3&360)
360 has won, PS3 is pretty much doomed to 3rd place, PS3 will continue to not be the lead platform for development, and I think we will continue to see more developers skipping the platform all together when it comes to low budget titles.
360 is the must have console of this generation. PS3 and it’s embaressing cry baby fanboys are the joke of the gaming industry.

Of course xbox 360 will dominate 2009, has the best and most by miles RPG’s, startegy, adventure etc games, and all next gen unlike PS3
PS3 gets small games, as always, with last gen small levels and last gen game design and gameplay, like MGS4, LBP, GOW3, KZ2, Heavy Rain, Uncharted etc
Games with small paths for a world and linearity, nothing even remotly next gen about them in my book
Xbox 360 gets vast next gen free roaming worlds like in Alan Wake, KUF2: Dominion, Two Worlds Temptation, Divinity 2, Venetica, Risen etc, the real free roaming, vast in detail and scale next gen and best quality games in 2009 (like it did in 2008 with Fable 2, again better than any PS3 small limited offering)
That is why it will easilly prevail, it has vastly better quality and huge world next gen games than PS3, PS3 has absolutly nothing like those titles
Really? Your strong points are “achievements”? This is why Xbox will dominate in 2009? Really? How does this differ from the now mandatory PS Trophy system, which has been proven to be far more accurate in determing a gamers true skill.
This article is so, so sad. To think, this is the best thing Xbox has going for it is scary.

I spent a weekend with the 360 last year and I really just dont get it… I had Halo and I dint get it, Gears #1 and I dindt get it… C&C:TW was my game of choose but was thinking about how much greater it is on PC. No offense, far back I was driving a Alfa Romeo and I knew it was crap but I still loved it.
PS3 is all I need, but I dont consider myself a hardcore gamer, once I was!!!
Two kids from now, good times.
Warhawk, WipeOut HD, GT5:P and the fantastic slideshow options is all I need.

Even with the rrod ive had 3 times with my 360. They are both great systems that have great games. But i can agree that sony does need a price drop in order to improve sales. this article is laughable…more so with all the fanboys running to it. almost all of your points are completely invaild minus the first one and the xbox live one. achievements are now also on ps3, AAA games are now on the ps3(had more in 08 than the 360, check metacritic), Japan..well, you named 2 games 1 of which will for sure be on ps3 and the other will probably come..but lets not forget about the 2 JRPGS sony already has out. Sonys line up of first party exclusives is much better than Microsofts, soo another fail.

about a third of the xboxes sold are replacements that people had to buy because microsoft will only fix your box so many times. and i know i went through that shit.And halo:odst is 4-5 hour game,im sure it will sell but im sure alot of people will be dissapointed.like gears sold alot but online it has really low activity.i havent played gears 2, but the first one had a good single player campaign but the online was weak.but im not hatin just to be i was an xbox fan till they showed me their true colors so now i chose ps3 and it is all because of xbox.

so the xbox is 200 bucks, the ps 400. so if i want to save any game or play a game with an install i will have to buy a hard drive because memory cards are not going to last long for movie and shows and themes and the other stuff available for download.then if i want to hook it up to my wireless network i have to fork out more money for a wifi adapter.and then if i chose to play online i have to buy a gold membership.so when does it get cheaper to own an xbox. so basicly its the same price. so that argument is dead.they sell that to people who dont know what there buying.
