Ubisoft Goes Green (Clamping Down On Instruction Manuals)

Ubisoft announced today that Shaun White Skateboarding will be their first effort at going green; all instruction manuals will be all digital. This will be the first game to benefit from this new initiative. Why the sudden change of heart? Well Ubisoft data reveals that producing one ton of paper used in Ubisoft’s game manuals consumes an average of two tons of wood from 13 trees, with a net energy of 28 million BTU’s (equivalent to average heating and energy for one home/year).

Laurent Detoc, president of Ubisoft North America said the following.

“Eco-friendly initiatives are important to the global community and introducing in-game digital manuals on Xbox 360 and PS3 is just the latest example of Ubisoft’s ongoing commitment to being a more environmentally conscious company.”

Nothing wrong with having consideration for the world we live in, I am sure it will set a great example. As we move further into the age of digital resources, I am sure this is a move that will become standard within the next 5-10 years. Perhaps Ubisoft can send Sam Fisher on an Eco friendly mission in the next Splinter Cell game.

Now that Ubisoft is going green, they can match the The Koalition color scheme. Green parties in the Hamptons anyone?
