Microsoft have taken the ban hammer out of their closet. It has been reported that up to 1 Million Xbox Live accounts have been banned due to illegal modding and piracy. This is well justified as it is not good to steal of course, but is there more to Microsoft’s intentions than meets the eye?

I do not doubt that Microsoft wish to help out the game developers/publishers by clamping down on the piracy of their games on the console, as that is a delicate matter that should be a top priority. Below is a statement on this matter issued by Microsoft.

“All consumers should know that piracy is illegal and that modifying their Xbox 360 console to play pirated discs violates the Xbox Live terms of use, will void their warranty and result in a ban from Xbox Live,”

However we all know that once somebody’s account get’s banned their only option is to purchase a brand new Xbox 360.

So my question is, could this act be both an improvisation and a strategy to boost their sales a little? It would be a great way to boost their holiday sales even further wouldn’t it?

What they are doing is illegal so they should be banned. If they go and buy a new system then that’s their penalty. If m$ had another way 2 penalize them then I would find reason 2 write this article. They don’t…

thanks for the comment bess, I know what your saying. And like i said, if people break they law they have to be penalized, but its the pattern in which Ms do this that made it suspect to me thats all. They should do this through out the whole year.

They Obviously Do This At The End Of The Year Let Them Have A Years Fun Then Ban Dem Simple As

Microsoft schedules their purges every November. Saves time and resources to wipe out everyone at once than to have to constantly check the status of millions of XBOXs all over the world. I hear what yer saying and it’s an interesting theory, but, despite the convenient timing, it’s nothing more than what it is. Just a coincidence.

Then again, I own a PS3 so I don’t really care either way.

So They Can Catch Most Of The Stealers In One Go Than Simply Wasting Time Doing It Multiple Time Throughout The Year So You Might Aswell Catch Them In One Go To Save Time

lol It’s nothing to do with sales. You guys are looking way too far into this. I love how when something happens in the video game industry that people aren’t fond of, they scream out injustice and conspiracy.

        It is what it is.

No i dont, in the article i express how I KNOW that the bans are partly because they want to show support for the developers/publishers.

I just think that theres more to it than that though. They are definitely justified, because it’s an illegal act. But the timing and the pattern is what’s interesting.
