Vidzone is now available for everyone to download free of charge from the Playstation store. The application gives gamers the ability to stream a range of music videos of different genres, but does this new application provide anything new to the Playstation 3 experience, I sure as hell think so.

Downloading and installing VidZone should take you no longer than 5 minutes, and the file is around 28mb, which means there is no reason not to at least try out this great new application. Once installed, you have access to a whole load of music videos separated by genre, Sony also gives you a featured selection of music videos. For example, if you download the application now, the first thing you will see is “Michael Jackson 1958-2009″, clicking into this selection will allow you to play a collection of Michael Jackson videos. Other featured playlist’s include the charts (which may vary depending on your country), and artist of the week.

The great thing is about VidZone however, is the ability to take music videos from all categories and featured playlist’s and create your own video playlist’s. This gives you the ability to take all your favorite videos from the given selection available and put them together to watch them back to back. Not only that, but there’s also a download feature for all videos.

As far as quality goes, the video quality is not the best, and sometimes the streaming of the video tends to lag. Which may just vary depending on your broadband speeds. However it defiantly is not a good look seeing the video stop to buffer every couple of minutes. Hopefully Sony will be able to maintain the network and deliver high quality streaming to all users. Also, although they have different genres to enjoy, I didn’t see many new and recent music videos there, they all seemed to be fairly old, especially in the Hip Hop category (labeled “Best OF Bling”).

Besides the few negative points from the streaming, VidZone is a great application to enjoy for free, It would be great to see VidZone updated very frequently to keep up with the demand of music videos. Regardless Sony are defiantly giving gamers more reason to stay on their Playstation 3 with features like Vidzone and Home.

yea just checked it out, its a good idea but im not impressed

the song selection is so random and abysmal, the menu is weird and clunky and worst of all the quality is ass and videos play in 4:3… wtf is that about?

it’s just so damn hard to navigate and find thing, they got a couple of good artists though like Jadakiss, Fabolous, Memphis Bleek, Beanie Sigel, Jay-Z, Young Gunz, Nas etc
