Final Fantasy XIII is the upcoming role playing game/RPG in the Fabula Nova Crystallis Final Fantasy XIII Compilation by Japanese developer and publisher Square Enix. The game is due exclusively in Japan for the Sony PlayStation 3. However in North America and European territories, it is due for the PlayStation 3 and the Microsoft Xbox 360 next spring. Square Enix is also known for such IPs as Dragon Quest (Dragon Warrior in the US until 2005), Kingdom Hearts, Star Ocean, Fullmetal Alchemist, and etc. The producer of this title is Kitase Yoshinori. He was the director of Final Fantasy VI (Final Fantasy III in the US back in 1994), and Chrono Trigger on the Super Famicom/Super Nintendo. He did Final Fantasy VII and Final Fantasy VIII on the PlayStation/PSone. He also did Final Fantasy X and Final Fantasy X-2 on the PlayStation 2. He is currently the executive producer on the long sought sequel to Parasite Eve 2 titled Parasite Eve The 3rd Birthday exclusively on the Sony PlayStation Portable/PSP.
The game was first unveiled as an exclusive to the PlayStation 3 platform at Sony’s E3 Press Conference in 2006. The US version of Final Fantasy XII was also shown at this time. The game was to run on Square Enix’s proprietary White Engine that was specifically designed exclusively for the PlayStation 3 platform. It was slated to use four of the seven processors in the Cell processor just for graphics alone. The White Engine was designed according to world renowned developer Tetsuya Nomura (Final Fantasy VII Advent Children, The Bouncer, etc) to simulate battle sequences similar to Final Fantasy VII Advent Children Complete. He at one time via Famitsu stated that “all visions come true” when a game is exclusive. Also on his stance on the PlayStation 3 in regards to Final Fantasy XIII at that time being exclusive to that platform, Nomura stated via QJ.net “It’s not just about how pretty the graphics are but more of how much limited amount of movement we can put on one go and how big our imagination and ideas are. The PS3 is the machine that is closest to being able to express our imagination.”
At the 2008 Game Developers Conference, Square Enix scrapped the White Engine and introduced a multiplatform engine named the Crystal Tools Engine during a session at GDC entitled “The Technology of Final Fantasy” by Square Enix’s Taku Murata. At this time several sources within the interactive entertainment media and the community began to speculate and some regards encourage that Final Fantasy XIII would be a Microsoft Xbox 360 title in addition to the PlayStation 3 version. In other words, the game would be multiplatform which is a FIRST for the IP. At around this same period, Star Ocean 4, despite the fact that the trailer was featured on the Japanese PlayStation Portable/PSP version of Star Ocean The Second Departure, was unveiled as a 360 exclusive. Of course, everyone by now remembers that day when Microsoft’s Don Mattrick and Square Enix’s Yoichi Wada basically shitted on PS3 gamers by announcing Final Fantasy XIII coming to Xbox 360 right? Gamers knew the deal behind the deal but of course Microsoft as usual stated otherwise. Albert Pennello who is the Global Marketing Manager from Microsoft stated and quote “I think the most obvious reason that they made the announcement is just looking at the success of our console…Square has done games for us in the past, and I think there’s a point where Square just has to look at the Xbox 360, the install base and attach rates that we’re seeing and actually has to make a decision on their own that it’s the right thing to do for them…I think it’s easy to assume that something’s going on behind the scenes, I think the more obvious answer is we’re doing really well and the game creators want their games to be where the most people and the most consoles [are], and right now that’s the Xbox 360.” Shane Kim stated that the deal was made also to convince Japanese developers/publishers to no longer deny the 360 platform. To this very day, they will no disclose the terms of the deal unlike what they did with Grand Theft Auto IV.
In an interview via MTV Multiplayer with Peter Dillie who is the Senior Vice President for Marketing and PlayStation Network from Sony Computer Entertainment America, Stephen Totilo asked “You guys talked about exclusives. And there’s a lot of really cool exclusives coming out. But I wanted to talk to you about an exclusive that’s no longer an exclusive, and that’s “Final Fantasy XIII.” Microsoft made a whole big deal about it. They showed it at the end of their press conference as their big surprise. You guys are saying exclusives are really important. So does not having “Final Fantasy XIII” anymore just for PS3 hurt you guys?” Peter Dillie answered by stating that “What you have with “Final Fantasy XIII” is a lot like what they’ve paid for with “GTA.” It’s not an exclusive on their platform. It’s now a cross-platform game. Sand I think if you look at how “GTA” behaved in the marketplace and how it drove — or didn’t drive — either console, that’s what I’m talking about. Consumers responded to “GTA” on the PS3 just as they did on the 360. And it becomes a bit of a jump ball. But it didn’t rise the tide for them. And I think if you fast forward to when “Final Fantasy XIII” comes out I think you’re going to have millions of people who grew up playing “Final Fantasy” on the PlayStation playing it on a PlayStation 3. They spent a lot of money, I’m sure, to get “Final Fantasy” onto the 360 but at the end of the day it’s on our platform as well. Which is why we focus on, “Let’s look at what happens when you have “Metal Gear Solid” on your platform … when the NPD numbers come out … I think you’ll see the value of what a real exclusive title does and how it raised the bar for PS3 versus 360.” It’s interesting to note that EEDAR analyst Jesse Divinich stated that exclusives sell 45% better than multiplatform titles on PS3.
Square Enix tried their best attempt at damage control. Here’s a few of their examples below.
-Gamespot article (August 2, 2008)
In the video, director Motomu Toriyama didn’t beat around the bush when Nomura asked him questions about the 360 FFXIII. Starting off, he reconfirmed that, “We haven’t changed the direction of the development. We’re making the PS3 version first, and then porting to the 360 later.” That means that since the game will be released simultaneously on both platforms in North America and Europe, the PS3 release will be held back in those territories until the 360 version is complete.
Furthermore, Toriyama also revealed that, as of July 29, his team hasn’t yet received the tools needed to begin work on the Xbox 360 version of FFXIII. “I’m telling them to not think about the Xbox 360 right now,” he said. “We can think about it after the development kits arrive.”
The director also reassured PS3 owners that the game’s quality would not suffer due to the 360 port. “We aren’t going to change any specifications [of FFXIII] because of the multi-platform announcement,” he declared. “Right now, we’re fully concentrating on the PS3 version.”
-Kikizo.com via an interview (November 2008) “It’s well known by now that FFXIII is no longer PS3 exclusive. Some PS3 fans are extremely disappointed, and have become quite vocal about their dissatisfaction. What would you say to them?”
Kitase: “I’d like to add… I think that maybe because it’s going multi-platform that some fans are worried about the game’s scope being reduced to fit onto both consoles. The fact is, the PS3 version is what’s in development right now, and the team is working to specialize that version to the very best of the PS3’s abilities. After that, we’ll do the 360 port and optimize it to that particular hardware. There will be no decrease in quality as a result of the game appearing across two platforms.”
-Kitase via Japanese magazine Dengeki PlayStation 3 (March 2009)- “Doesn’t the demo use about 50 percent of its power? Of course, I think the retail version will make use of nearly 100 percent.”
-Kitase via VideoGamer.com (June 2009) “The team is targeting to create an equal experience on both the 360 and the PS3, so there are no limitations. For example, right now we’re working on the PS3 version first, and once we’ve completed that we’ll really know how much game there will be to fit onto the Xbox 360 discs.
“So we don’t know how many discs it’ll be housed on for 360, but there won’t be a chance that we’ll compromise anything because, oh it didn’t fit in the 360 discs so we’ll have to take it out of the PS3 version, or vice versa.”
To my expectation it came to no surprise that a 360 version of Final Fantasy XIII was demoed earlier this year at Microsoft’s Press Conference at this year’s E3. They tried to stimulate the unveiling by showing the Guardian Force Odin. Now remember this? They stated many times that they would PORT the game over to the 360 AFTER the PS3 version was COMPLETED. Now answer this question. Did Final Fantasy XIII came out in Japan yet or better yet did it came out at all? No. So then why is there even a 360 version of the game in existence? The answer is plain and fucking simple. The game is a MULTIPLATFORM title to begin with. No timed exclusive bullshit. No. This game was and always has been developed side by side. Earlier at this year’s gamescom, Kitase stated that the PS3 is at 90% complete and that the 360 version is at 70% complete. Only a 20% difference. Just around the same estimated percent most of the time when developers make games multiplatform with the 360 version as the lead SKU, denominator or whatever you want to call it.
Now of course you may ask yourself, so what did they dumb down supposedly? Well first take into account that whenever a game is in development for multiple platforms, the developer always has to sacrifice concepts so that the scale will be fit onto the desired platforms. That’s why most developers make their games on the lowest common denominator which in this case this generation is the 360. DVD technology which dates back to 1996 is easier to develop for but severely outdated by today’s standard set by Blu Ray and/or the former HD DVD. With this in mind if you watch the clip from YouTube below, after the 3:00 mark, you’ll see a real time scene from the Japanese exclusive Final Fantasy XIII demo that was included with the First Print Limited Edition version of the Blu Ray Final Fantasy VII Advent Children Complete. Now that scene was originally supposed to be CG rendered as evident in the first trailer from E3 2006. Now why is this important? The reason is that developing real time scenes is less efficient and more costly in the development process. Any game tester will tell you the hell that they go through, as they have to check for bugs which is the least of their worries. Bottom line. It’s a waste of time. That time can be reserved to further develop actual concepts of the game i.e. gameplay, presentation, etc. Also Kitase stated that the PS3 version will NOT have a dual language option, despite the fact that the game is on Blu Ray.
It’s already proven time and again that the majority gamers on the 360 platform don’t respect nor have interest in the controversially termed JRPG genre. Where do you think the term JRPG started? Let me answer that for you. It started back in 2003 when Star Wars Knights of The Old Republic was released. XBOX gamers frustrated with the lack of support from Square Enix and other Japanese developers, found that the RPG (KOTOR) was very well received and before you know it, Japanese developed RPGs were heavily criticized and later denied acknowledgment. Is that the case now that XIII is no longer an exclusive to PS3? Well let’s see. To this date there hasn’t been a Japanese RPG on the 360 platform that went platinum or sold over a million copies.
To demonstrate the “interest” that 360 owners showcase in the genre, let’s look at the most recent Xbox Live Top Ten.
01) Call of Duty World at War
02) Halo 3
03) Call of Duty 4 Modern Warfare
04) Gears of War 2
05) Madden NFL 10
06) LOST PLANET 2 Co-op Demo
07) Grand Theft Auto IV
08) Shadow Complex
09) Trials HD
10) FIFA 09
What?!? The point is that Final Fantasy XIII didn’t even come close to the vision set by Tetsuya Nomura back in 2006 which I wonder why he left the project earlier this summer. The gameplay showcased then is very possible. Sure there will be uninformed detractors that say otherwise, however they probably never experienced a PS3 exclusive. Naughty Dog’s Uncharted 2 Among Thieves and Guerrilla Games Killzone 2 come to mind. The point is that this is yet another example of PR and Microsoft’s bullshit. Multiplatform doesn’t go both ways. PS3 owners get once exclusives dumbed down and/or released day and date with the 360 i.e. Tekken 6. On the other hand 360 owners get timed exclusives to games they don’t even know or give a shit about i.e. Star Ocean 4. This led to the degradation and quality of Japanese RPGs this generation, simply because Microsoft can’t compete with Sony. They basically tell Japanese developers and publishers, remember that shit that you made last generation, yeah do that, but you have a deadline. We’ll pay for incentives, and anything you missed afterwards, release it as DLC (downloadable content). 1984. I think history may repeat itself if this goes on.
Be sure to listen to this week’s Co Op podcast featuring killakap, Swiff, htown, Mills and myself, Haipa Sonikku (Hai-pa So-nik-ku) for the team’s view on this controversial topic.
Final Fantasy XIII US Dialog vs Japanese Dialog
Final Fantasy target gameplay vs actual gameplay Comparision HD

so sad ms holds back the progress of the industry with the greedy corporate culture
ms deserves to go away and never be seen again
very good article by the way
heh great article you have here. I also suspected the development was multiplatform to begin with and after E3 this year, my worst fears were basically confirmed.
I guess most rational people would agree that SquareEnix doesn’t know wtf it is doing for the past 3 years. I used to be one of the fiercest FF fanboys around, right now i just want to see SE go bankrupt
awesome article !!
@ saddude
WTF WITH YOU ! DID MS TRIED RAPING YOU OR SOMETHING ?!
MS TRYING THEIR BEST TO SATISFY THEIR CONSOL USERS WASTING LOADS OF MONEY TO PROVIDE WHAT IS BEST FOR THE CONSUMER WHAT’S WRONG WITH THAT ?!
AND BTW SE WILL HAVE DOUBLED PROFITS DEVELOPIN FOR BOTH CONSOLES
IF YOU ARE SO EAGER TO TO PLAY THE GAME FU-KN IMPORT IT JUST AS SIMPLE AS THAT AND IF YOU DON’T KNOW JAPANESE GAMEFAQS SHOULD HELP YOU SEE !!
YOU KNOW WHAT, I THINK YOU AND THE DISGUSTING PPL THAT ARE LIKE YOU SHOULD DIE AND AND NEVER BE SEEN AGAIN !!!!
that was never the point here, the issue is that Square lied to us, and lied to you, they insulted every fans intelligence. this isnt about FFXIII being delayed. Its about the fact they downgraded the quality of the game just for money.
how do you know its downgraded? its not even out yet.. hell is there even a release date? the real fact is that game developers aren’t fanboys… seriously the guy who wrote this reminds me of http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k-uTnqYHZ-I …
“Microsoft Works” … That’s an oxymoron.
I just can’t approve of their business pratices.
Great article btw.
Great article.
Uh… I have some ‘theory’ awhile back about Square Enix probably paranoid with the 13 number attached to Final Fantasy.
After reading this…
I think I could implemented it further more.
Oh, by the way.
I’m sure Tetsuya Nomura / maybe Square Enix countered the XIII number with Versus XIII.
The name it self implied ‘Against Bad Luck’.
^^^
Don’t take it seriously.
@atMAX
Microsoft has tried raping all of us dumbass. Providing the best for the consumer? So the best thing for the consumer is shoddy hardware that was rushed to market and bribing developers with truckloads of money to inadvertently sabotage their product for the competition?
I personally am more pissed by the delay in the release of FFXIII. There’s no way of telling how much different the quality would have been, but we can be very certain that the game would be out by now had microsoft not bribed SE into bringing it to the 360. I for one will be purchasing White Knight Chronicles instead and will not be purchasing any SE products in the near future. Some things are just not worth the wait.
Good article by the way. I learned a few more things about microsoft’s business practice and agree that they need to go away. Unfortunately the majority of us Americans are too stupid to stop buying their shoddy products due to the massive marketing campaign they shove down our throats. Its up to the rest of the world to demonstrate that M$ won’t be tolerated. America will eventually follow suit.
heh bro couldn’t have agreed more. Some people might look down on WKC, but Level5 has added what SE and other p*$$* rpg developers didn’t dare to – adding online component. This shows their willingness to take a step forward and innovate, and i will definitely support it.
And i agree that people should look pass M$ marketing bs & lies and start opening their eyes. I’ve always found it hilarious when i see people who believes that they are getting their money’s worth when purchasing a 360.
Interesting article, well thought out and you do a good job of supporting your opinions. I don’t know what to think about this one, I do still want the game but I would hate to think the game was watered down for the 360’s sake. I guess the proof will be in the final product or products in this case as I think it will be interesting to see what becomes of 13 and then to compare it to Versus 13 in terms of graphics, scope and gameplay since it is a PS3 exclusive.
WHY KEEP CRYING OVER AND OVER THEN ITS AN OLD SUBJECT NOW, WRITING A WALL OF WORDS JUST TO TELL US THAT SE HAS LIED AND KEEP BLAMING MS ITS JUST RIDICULAS AND IMMATURE!!
THEY ARE MAKING THE GAME ON BOTH CONSOLES FOR GOD’S SAKE !! AND TRUST ME THE PS3 VERSION WILL BE BETTER BECAUSE OF THE BLU-RAY
A TRUE FF FAN SHOULD CARE ABOUT THE GAME ITSELF NO MATTER WHAT CONSOLE ITS ON AND SE IS STILL GREAT COMPANY.
SORRY FOR MY E N G L I S H
you just didnt grasp what the article was about ffs!
No he probably can’t read or something. He just took 1 look at the title and start spamming every in CAP LOCKS….’OMG WHY ARE YOU GUYS SO MEAN? YOU SHOULD BE HAPPY FOR US XBOTS! WE GET TO PLAY FF13 TOO! A TRUE FF FAN SHOULD ONLY CARE THAT EVERYONE GETS TO PLAY THE GAME EVEN IF THE QUALITY GETS REDUCED BY 30%!”
Alright, This shows a point I have been making since the debut of this current generation. The Japanese games market is not what is was during the 90’s. It has not been the same since the last generation. Just look at the number of Japanese companies who have either folded or merged with other companies. Every Japanese game developer is looking to Western gaming trends. That is why EVERY MGS game since MGS2 has been released in the US before Japan. These companies know if they truly want to turn a profit they have to give more “universal appeal” to their games. I understand it is about basic economics, but as a Japanese “purist” I think it is bullshit. But at the same time, I understand it.
Now lets get in to this PS3/360 exclusive shit. First of all, I understand some people thinking SE lied to us about the development of FFXIII. OK let me explain something the term exclusive should ALWAYS be taken lightly when it comes to third party companies. ALWAYS. I know for a fact that there is a 360 build of MGS4 somewhere at Konami. How else would all of the companies say “x game is ONLY possible on the PS3. I mean come on people. Konami says they are satisfied with the sales but I have talked to a number of people at Konami and they wish the game sold at least 3-4 million more copies. These companies NEED to put their games on XBOX 360, if they want to see a profit and keep the lights on.
Second, everyone talks about Microsoft’s business practices. Has everyone forgotten Sony’s bullshit marketing strategies since the original Playstation. Promising but never delivering and saying that the system can do this and that and it does everything except play games right. I understand the frustration about the 360’s failure rates and all but the fact of the matter is that there are more 360’s out there than PS3’s. It is a numbers game. And people need to quit bitching about the consoles failure rates. I mean Sony claims to have 150 million PS2’s out there. But half of the PS2 were in some landfill or being used as doorstops. But we all bought 2nd and 3rd PS2’s.
So if MS is buying up exclusives they aren’t spending too much money because people realize that if they want to make money selling games go 360 or MULTIPLATFORM. If Guerilla Games somehow made Killzone 2 multiplatform it would have sold COD4 numbers.
Thirdly, Every (third party) developer has said that the Xbox 360 and the PS3 are similar in processing power. Both consoles have potential that has not been tapped yet. So all this Blu ray versus DVD nonsense needs to stop Sony doesn’t use the full potential of Blu ray yet.
Get it through your heads SONY FANBOYS, the PS3 and the 360 are very similar. So lets just get back to the reason why we all have controllers in our hands…TO PLAY GAMES.
I will finish the rest of this rant later on my blog and/or on the podcast.
yo u gotta get a good mic man…i think u and haipa will make for a interesting podcast..lets get it poppin..get at me when u get the chance
sure thing. I will get a good mic. Any recommendations?
Show me links to “every (third party) developer has said PS3 & 360 have equal processing power” and then we talk.
I’m sure there are plenty of FF fans out there who have bought a PS3 to play a proper NEXT-GEN FF game, not a compromised & gimped one. If it wasn’t for the 360, we would have gotten our hands on FF13 earlier, not to mention with all the content intact.
So get this right, we are angry only because we care about this game. Had SE start work on the 360 port only after they released the PS3 version(JUST LIKE WHAT THEY PROMISED) i wouldn’t give a sh*t about the gimping/compromising.
I’m a PS3 gamer, why would i give a damn whether some xbots get to play FF13 too? I’m cool with it going multiplat, but NOT when my game gets gimped!!!
Oh and before i forget, due to SE “Aiming to fit on 3 DVDs” THERE WILL BE NO JAPANESE VOICE OVER!! EVEN IF THEY ARE NOT EVEN CLOSE TO FILLING OUT THE BLURAY. SO A BIG THANKYOU TO M$ AND ALL THEIR FANBOYS OUT THERE!
Pure economical logic. In the end they’re all companies who have to make profit. And how do you make profit: by selling a lot. And how do you sell a lot: By releasing as many copies as possible. And that’s why stuff like GTA, Final Fantasy, Tekken, … are multiplatform. Games are becoming more and more expensive to make, so they have to get more and more money out of their sales.
And the cliché that Xbox gamers don’t like JRPGs is pure crap. Lost Odyssey sold really well, as did Blue Dragon and Eternal Sonata (not as much as LO but still quite a lot). Why didn’t stuff like The Last Remnant, Enchanted Arms, Infinite Undiscovery or Star Ocean sell well? Because they’re bad games.
You can bet on it that FFXIII will sell extremely well for the 360.
Btw one thing you must also not underestimate is how many people waited to buy a next-gen console for games like GTA and FF. A lot of those people (I was one of them) eventually decided on buying a 360 when they heard a lot of those games were going to be multiplatform. Not all 360 gamers only enjoy Gears of War and Halo
lol your a douche. who gives a flying fuck!? Its for both platforms, now i dont have to buy a ps3 which saves me alot of money (i dont care if it ps3 version is better, i just want to play it and save money).
Controversy lol! they all say things to save their own ass’
while i dont have a problem with FF XIII going to 360 i dont agree with how MS is using the 360. i bought a 360 to play 360 games. not ps3 games. i bought a ps3 to play ps3 games. not 360 games. i completely understand that money is needed definitely in today’s economy, but exclusives should just be left alone completely. Just my opinion.
Chuuch to otakuman and one thing the poster missed when he went into his dissertation.
SUPPLY and DEMAND.
I’m glad I found this article. I was really worried that the PS3 would be downgraded because of the 360.
For the person who said real fans would play the game even if its downgraded. I dont believe that, a real Final Fantasy fan would want the best Final Fantasy game SE could develop at the time.
Great Article
Enix have failed me before and they can do it again.. I Just hope they don’t..
FFX was a gem, X-2 onward has been gaming fail. FF12 was a “good” game but not a FF game.. I mean it followed nearly nothing from the previous games. branching it off tactics and naming it something other then 12 would have made me more forgiving against the game.
I completely agree that FFXIII will now get dumbed down due to the Xbox 360’s limited hardware abilities.
This won’t be the first or the last game to suffer when it’s announced as a multiplatform title.
ex.)
—Tekken 6 (It’ll never match those CG trailers now that it’s multiplatform.)
—Devil May Cry 4
—Rage
—Metal Gear Solid: Rising (Considering MGS4 on PS3 took up 50GB on a Blu-ray disc your looking at a good 6 discs for the 360 version of Rising guaranteed.)
—Crysis (When it comes to consoles handling the Cry Engine PS3 does a better job at handling that engine then the 360 does.)
—Doom 4
—GTA IV
—Unreal Tournament 3 (PS3 handled the UE3 engine better for this particular game.)
—Batman: Arkham Asylum (PS3 handled the UE3 engine better then the 360.)
etc.
It’s a shame that some games can’t live to their full potential due to greed amongst other firms.
But there’s still hope though.
Now that PS3 Slim is out for $299, games are starting to sell better on PS3, and the install base is growing future games may still have a chance to live to their full potential.
Why is the damn text on this site so small?
yo fuck this stupid multi plat BS thats soo gay that they have to take
ff from sony man thhalf of the 360 owners arent even gonna play it because most of there first consoles were the original xbox and they dont really know whats good the onlhy games they have really experienced are shooters
Ok, well i had read an article that the game will be downgraded due to the X-box, here are screen shots,
http://hatimaki.blog110.fc2.com/blog-entry-1280.html
and here is one article i read.
http://gamer.blorge.com/2009/09/05/gamers-blame-xbox-360-for-final-fantasy-xiii-visual-downgrade/
And this was another link http://www.uffsite.net/news/232/ff13-graphics-changes-in-action.html
But recently i came across this link here, which I HOPE WILL NOT BE IGNORED!
http://forums.gametrailers.com/thread/ffxiii—no–downgrade-/883918
Explaining in how there will be no Downgrade.
And the only down grade there originally was, was from the 2006 cinematics, to what we see now. The truth is that X-box 360 could very well be one reason for a graphic downgrade, but the original CG we were given in 2006, was probably just promotional CG to spice up its fan base and get us really excited for the up coming release.
There were only a few things i have read in comments that i must ask if are true are not.
Is it really TRUE that CG will be cut from the game, just because of the 360?
Or do you even know if CG will be cut at all.
Star ocean had allot of CG in it, and in game scenes.
I think The CG will probably be the same.
Secondly, this i know is probably true.
But X-box slowing down the process of the game coming out, and how it could have been out this fall but now its coming out next spring.
Is it really true?
It most likely and that just sucks:(
But i just want a clarification though.
I will be buying this game for the PS3 because that is where it belongs, and i will also be importing the Japanese exclusive PS3 version, to see if there really are that many giant changes.
I do quite dislike X-box for the reasons brought up in this forum, but i am no PS3 fan boy. I might Buy the X-box Version just to see if there is a difference in both games. I own both systems, and a Wii, but like i said, this game should have only been released as a PS3 Exclusive.
And atMAX, you are clearly a HUGE fucking Xbot! If anyone on this site at all, it is you, the X-box fan boy.
Anyways, i still think this game will be amazing, and one of the best in the series, hopefully. I hope the articles i posted help clear anything up for anyone, and great article btw.
Sorry for double post, or it shows that i have double posted on my comp, anyways sorry.
i they have the same graphics i wont be buyign ff13
how is a ps3 game that comes on dual layer blu ray disc (only the third ps3 title so far) gimped? I dread to think how 'gimped' a game like uncharted 2 (on only single layer BD) is by that standard and that wasnt even multiplat! you see?
Nice article. Gotta agree with You. Final Fantasy XIII will not be “all it can be” since it had to be downgraded to the lowest common denominator the Xbox 1.5.
For the record I own the Wii, PS3 and RE5 SE Xbox 360 Elite (Jasper) aka xbox 1.5 console.
Only reason I bought that M$ POS is Fallout 3 DLC.
Anyway, Final Fantasy should be a PS3 exclusive no question about it. For no other reason than Square Enix should have used the PS3's full capabilities to develop an unprecedented graphical masterpiece.
Now unfortunately, we PS3 owners have to put up with this inferior multi-platform inferior Xbox watered down version . . . thanks Square Enix, You suck now.
I don't think I'll even get this game anymore, that's how much I'm pissed about this.
The PS3, even without FF has the best exclusive line up.
BTW, am I the only person who after viewing AVATAR in IMAX 3D can't wait for PS4 and Sony's new LX900 3D HDTV series? : )
Everyone knows the 360 version has got better graphics, exept for the compressed cutscenes, whats funny is that the ps3 is supposed to be way more powerful than the 360 and it just isnt is it? the sad thing is i played the jap version for my ps3 and its a bit of a disappointment, not the graphics, the actual gameplay.with the last 4 games they have raped the final fantasy name
@dfresh, where do you get your info from? Theonion.com?
GTA IV, Unreal 3, Batman AA, DMC 4 – all were superior on the Xbox 360.
Rage – not even out yet, but ID is struggling with keeping the PS3 version at 30fps, where the Xbox 360 version runs at 60fps (and doom 4 will use the same engine)
Crysis – Once again, unreleased. But Crytek already mentioned the code was easier to optimize on the Xbox 360
Tekken 6 – PS3 version can't even keep up with the Xbox 360 resolution, neverminding the CG graphics.
MGS 4- full of cutscenes and dialog galore. This game never came out on Xbox 360 because of exclusivity deal, so it it pointless to talk about it. When Rising comes we'll see…
The PS3 just failed to live to the marketing hype, and we now already see that it's holding the Xbox 360 back because developers are struggling with it, not the other way round.
looks at the videos man… http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FpvdP2kMaKI you can clearly see that they have excluded CGI video from the Final Fantasy XIII game and made it with real time graphics to make it more 360 friendly
That was the ‘target’ render. And seriously, I prefer real time in scenes like that one. CG isnt really “immersive”. They throw you away from a videogame and put you front a “movie”.
I guess its just a matter of taste. But hey, this game was released? No? So, why are you arguing about?
=P

lol looks like we have some xbots here.
@atMax heh retard, why should we have to buy the jap version when we could have been playing the full english version this fall if it wasn’t for M$? And (using your own words) if you and your fucking disgusting 360 brethren can do us a favor by jumping off a building or something, we could be playing a real NEXT-GEN FF instead of a fucking gimped LAST-GEN experience.
To most people, CGI are the BEST part of FF and to replace it with in-game scenes just so it can fit on 3dvds is ridiculous. Esp. since FF13’s in-game gfx is slightly below average
