During the bank holiday weekend sales of the Xbox 360 elite jumped by 43%. After being dropped down to £199 on Friday the sales have sored upwards, beefing up Microsoft’s install base even further.

Microsoft dropped the price just days before the Playstation 3 slim was released in the UK (which was officially today), meaning the two consoles will be battling it out on the shelves at their new price this week.

Although the newly priced elite looks impressive; Microsoft have excluded all the HD cables from the console (hdmi and component), and even bumped up the price of the arcade to £159 whilst phasing out the £179 premium system.

This has lead to much criticism from journalists (mainly me), as it means they are making consumers lean more towards the £200 mark to get a decent experience, and I feel like it would have been better to also axe the arcade rather than putting up its price.

next week will tell the story of which price drop did the best for the corresponding system, so stay tuned to The Koalition to see what happens not just in the UK but all regions.
